Unable to Golf, Trump Unwinds by Attacking Oprah

Things seem to go off the rails every time President Trump declares it’s “infrastructure week,” but last week was particularly terrible. In addition to another horrific mass shooting, the administration was dealing with a number of uniquely Triumpian controversies: the White House’s mishandling of domestic violence allegations against a top aide, new reports suggesting Trump had a system for keeping his mistresses silent, and indictments from Special Counsel Robert Mueller that undercut Trump’s frequent claims that Russia did not meddle in the 2016 election. It seemed Trump’s strategy was to keep a low profile. After tweeting out just one offensive

Fergie’s national anthem confuses, amuses

3:08 AM ET Associated Press LOS ANGELES — Fergie tried something different with her national anthem at the NBA All-Star Game, and not everybody was cheering. The Black Eyed Peas singer’s slow, bluesy rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner” on Sunday before the 67th edition of the NBA’s annual showcase wasn’t particularly well received at Staples Center or on social media. A low chuckle rumbled through the sold-out arena after Fergie finished the first line of the song with a throaty growl on “the dawn’s early light.” Fans throughout the star-studded crowd reacted with varying levels of bemusement and enthusiasm while

Silver happy with All-Star, says TV draft likely

3:59 AM ET ESPN News Services NBA commissioner Adam Silver said he was pleased with the new format for the league’s All-Star Game and believed next year’s player draft would be televised. “I thought it was incredible. I can’t tell you how appreciative I am of the players,” Silver told ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne following a 148-145 win for Team LeBron over Team Stephen at Staples Center in Los Angeles. After a competitive All-Star Game that ended with the winning team putting forth a defensive stand to secure the victory, perhaps the only knock on the new format was that the

Canada Soccer enters new era under Reed with approval of Canadian Premier League

Canada Soccer is trumpeting a major milestone as their membership approved the Canadian Premier League.

The sport’s governing body in Canada says the unanimous endorsement encourages further growth of the game in the country through a professional league that is fully aligned with the National Teams Program.

The 2017 annual meeting of the members also featured the election of Steve Reed as Canada Soccer’s 34th president. Reed will serve the remaining three years of Victor Montagliani’s four-year term, who leaves the post after being elected president of CONCACAF.

“I would like to thank the Canada Soccer Membership for the opportunity as we continue the incredible momentum for the sport of soccer in our country,” Reed said in a press release. “This was an important day for our sport with the unaminous approval of the Canadian Premier League along with Hamilton and Winnipeg as new members of the Association and the overwhelming support for the 2026 FIFA World Cup joint bid with USA and Mexico.

“I look forward to serving the membership and building on the legacy of Victor Montagliani’s leadership of the past five years.”

The Canadian Premier League says it has received expressions of interest from 10 cities from across the country to participate in an all-Canadian professional soccer league and will look to evaluate those candidates in the next few months.

The CFL’s Winnipeg Blue Bombers confirmed they are looking into creating a Manitoba-based franchise for the Canadian Premier League and that there is also an ownership group in Hamilton, Ont. interested in starting a soccer team.

The league is targeting a start date in the fall of 2018.
