There was no mistaking the American star when he took to Augusta on the final day dressed in orange.
The tradition is a nod to his days at Oklahoma State where he wanted to stand out from the crowd.
At Augusta, the winner is always presented a Green Jacket and some golf fans just don’t want to see a horrific colour clash.
“I said it last year and I’ll say it again, ain’t no way Rickie Fowler goin to win the Masters wearing orange pants,” wrote one.
Another said: “I would root for Rickie Fowler, but, man, those orange pants.”
While a fellow fan added: “Rickie Fowler doesn’t believe he can win. You know why? Cause nobody wears orange pants with a green jacket.”
Others let rip at the stand-out clothing, writing: “I like golf clobber generally, even some of the more garish stuff – but Rickie Fowler’s orange and white outfits are shocking. No two ways about it.”
“Ricky Fowler’s orange strides really are awful and probably should be illegal,” added another.
While another worried: “Wouldn’t mind if Fowler ended up winning the masters I’m just worried how the green and orange would clash.”
Explaining why he wears orange, Fowler said last year: “I started doing that while I was in school. Obviously not many guys wear orange, so it was a way to be my own man out there.
“A few of my Oklahoma State team-mates wore the same colours, so at the time it was a bit of a bonding thing. But nobody really does it on tour. I like to think of it as my own little personal style.”
